Eighth Annual Environmental Day: Promoting Awareness of Climate Finance and Environmental Sustainability
The College of Business at Al Ain University recently hosted the Eighth Annual Environmental Day, centered around the theme "Climate Finance and Environmental Sustainability: Insights from SDG13." The event was organized by Dr. Mosab I. Tabash, Dr. Shorouq Eletter, and Dr. Tahira Yasmin, with the primary goal of raising awareness about climate change and environmental sustainability, particularly emphasizing the United Nations' SDG13.
The event was inaugurated by the University's President, Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, who was joined by the Deans, faculty members, staff, and students. He toured the environmental booths set up by the university's colleges, which showcased various initiatives aimed at protecting the environment. Following the inauguration, Dr. Zafar Hussain, Dean of the College of Business, delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the critical importance of safeguarding the environment to prevent devastating environmental disasters.
Notable speakers from both government and industry shared their valuable insights on climate change and sustainability. Ms. Aisha Al Mazroui, Project Manager of the Sustainable Campus Initiative from the Environmental Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD), discussed various EAD initiatives, including the Sustainable Campus project. Dr. Sivapalan Kathiravale, Head of Research & Development at Tadweer Group, presented information on recycling projects in the UAE and their role in promoting sustainability. Mr. Ghulam Ashraf, Director of Operations at Rise Biofuels, delivered an engaging presentation on how his company uses biofuels to reduce carbon emissions and emphasized the need for biofuels as a sustainable alternative.
During the event, two groups of students participated in an environmental competition, managed by Praveen Dhas, a College of Business student. The winning team was awarded prizes. Additionally, a plantation drive was held on the university campus, sponsored by Barari Natural Resources, with active participation from the Dean, faculty, and students.
Al Ain University is proud to be part of the Sustainable Campus initiative, overseen by the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency. The university has earned high rankings in the UI Green Metric World University Ranking, Sustainability Ranking, and Impact Ranking, reflecting its growing commitment to addressing pressing environmental challenges.
