Al Ain University short-term study abroad students at Menlo College

  • Menlo College will welcome Al Ain University students who wish to spend a semester or a year abroad in its program run on its campus in Atherton, California, USA, provided they meet the eligibility requirements established by Menlo College:
    1. The AAU student must meet the normal academic requirements for admission to Menlo College and be in good academic standing at AAU.
    2. The representative of AAU should feel confident in the recommended student's academic achievements, intercultural competencies, ability to adapt, and behavior and conduct in allowing them this international opportunity. This includes no record of probation for the student, as well as a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, or a statement of reasoning if the student does not meet the minimum requirements but is still recommended by AAU staff.
    3. The student should meet the English language requirements for admission to Menlo College.
    4. All short-term study abroad students shall have completed at least the first year of their academic program.
  • AAU students shall register for courses offered by Menlo College each semester as defined in the Menlo College course catalog, provided that the appropriate prerequisites are met. AAU shall be responsible for the approval of the course selections as they pertain to credits contributing to the AAU curriculum.      
  • Course registration will be indicated as part of the study abroad application process.
  • Students shall be bound by the academic rules and regulations pertaining to Menlo College.
  • The student must request official transcripts from AAU through the AAU registrar's office. Menlo College will recognize credits granted by AAU as the courses were approved when the students initially applied and registered.
  • AAU will accept credits from Menlo College according to the standards outlined in AAU's catalog. However, credits will be applied only if a grade of C- or above is earned.
  • For short-term study abroad at Menlo College, fees for AAU students will be as indicated in Appendix A for the 2022-23 academic year. Menlo College will invoice the Al Ain University student, amd each student will be obligated to pay for their expenses, including tuition.
  • Payment for travel to Menlo College, room & board, health insurance, books, and supplies during the period of study at Menlo College shall be the responsibility of the individual student.

Degree Seeking Students (2 + 2)

  • The parties shall establish and jointly offer a 2+2 program whereby AAU students may transfer to Menlo College for the third and fourth years (known as junior and senior) of study based on credits outlined in Appendix B to earn the Menlo College Bachelor of Business Administration (BSBA) This shall be a 2 + 2 program where AAU students are given the opportunity to complete the degree in two years at Menlo College, after 2 years at AAU.
  • AAU students who wish to complete more than 60 units at Menlo College must obtain official permission from AAU before they transfer to Menlo College to complete their degree of study based on credits outlined in Appendix B in order to earn the Menlo College Bachelor of Business Administration (BSBA).
  • Al Ain University students enrolling full-time at Menlo College in the 2 + 2 program for two semesters will be awarded a scholarship equivalent to 50% of the usual tuition. Students will be responsible for paying for their room and board, books, health insurance, and other living expenses.   AAU students participating in the program will pay tuition and fees directly to Menlo College.
  • AAU students wishing to enroll in Menlo College's third and fourth year (known as junior and senior) must meet the minimum GPA requirement of 2.5. The admissions documents to be submitted by AAU students to Menlo College are:
    • Completed Application Form
    • Personal Statement
    • Copy of Al Ain University Transcripts
    • Copy of CV/Resume

Housing

  • Al Ain University students shall be provided accommodations in one of Menlo's dormitories with a roommate carefully selected by Menlo College. Menlo College agrees to communicate with Al Ain University about the estimated cost of room and board each year to facilitate student planning. Students will be responsible for any deposit owed and liable for any damages caused to the accommodations according to the terms agreed upon in a housing contract. In addition, students must pay Menlo College a one-time non-refundable housing application fee of $75. Depending upon the building selected for housing on campus, the cost to each student for room and board at Menlo College ranges from $13,500 to $16,250 US for the 2022–23 fall and spring semesters for double occupancy rooms, inclusive of 18 meals per week (7 days). Room and board fees are reset annually. Note that meal service is not provided when Menlo College classes are not in session.

Student Support and Assistance and Other Fees

  • Menlo College agrees to provide dedicated support services, including an orientation program and other reasonable assistance related to academics and social and cultural adjustment, during the duration of the program.
  • Following receipt of the application materials, Menlo College will provide incoming short-term study abroad students with the necessary documentation to obtain a Student Visa (F-1) to permit study in the USA.
  • All AAU students will be expected to enroll in Menlo College's health insurance plan offering, the cost of which will be borne by the student.
  • AAU Students who enroll as "short-term study abroad students" at Menlo College shall remain members of AAU. However, for the duration of their studies at Menlo College, they will be treated as regular students of Menlo College, with the same freedoms and restrictions as the rest of the student body. AAU students will be subject to Menlo College's norms and regulations. Violation of local laws committed in the USA shall subject the AAU student to immediate revocation of their immigration and academic sponsorship and immediate expulsion from the USA.
  • AAU students must provide their own transportation to and from the port of entry in the USA and Menlo College. In addition, each student shall also bear the following expenses: living expenses during extended academic recess (holidays, winter and spring break periods, etc.), passport expenses, excess baggage shipment and storage, independent travel, and such personal expenses as telephone, books, etc.

 

 

  1. Exchange of Students – Undergraduate Level Studies
    • Each year during the duration of this Agreement, each institution may send up to four (4) undergraduate students to be enrolled as exchange students at the host institution for one academic semester; OR two (2) undergraduate students to be enrolled as exchange students for one academic year.
    • The exchange of students shall commence in August 2024 and continue for each year during the term of this Agreement.
    • The maximum number of students for exchange each year may be amended by mutual Agreement.
    • Students from both institutions will register in their university of origin, but will enjoy all the privileges accorded to students at the host institution.
    • Every effort will be made to maintain an evenly balanced exchange from year to year between IÉSEG and AAU. Both institutions agree that over the period of this Agreement, balance will be achieved in the exchange of full time students
    • Students from both institutions must have their course selections approved by their home institution in order to obtain transfer of credits towards their degrees. As well, students from each institution shall complete a “Learning Agreement” outlining the courses taken at the host institution.
  2. Exchange of Students – Graduate Level Studies
    • Each year during the duration of this Agreement, each institution may send up to four (4) graduate level students to be enrolled as exchange students at the host institution for one academic semester; OR two (2) graduate level students to be enrolled as exchange students for one academic year.
    • The exchange of students shall commence in August 2024 and continue for each year during the term of this Agreement.
    • The maximum number of students for exchange each year may be amended by mutual Agreement.
    • Students from both institutions will register in their university of origin, but will enjoy all the privileges accorded to students at the host institution.

  3. Student Fees and Tuition
    • Exchange students will pay tuition fees to their home institution.
    • Exchange students will not be charged tuition fees by their host institution.
    • The student participants will be responsible for the cost of housing, food, travel, books, insurance and other personal expenses.
    • The obligations of each institution under this agreement are limited to the exchange of students and do not extend to spouses or dependents. Expenses and administrative duties of accompanying spouses and dependents are the responsibility of the exchange student.
  4. Visa
    • Each participating student will be responsible for obtaining his or her own visa and completing the required immigration procedures needed to pursue studies at the host institution. In any case where the student has not obtained a visa of the host country, in cases required by law to do so, the host institution shall refuse admission to the student and shall advise the home institution.
    • The host institution agrees to provide an acceptance letter and other necessary documentation to be used by the student in obtaining the necessary visa.
    • In any case where the student has failed to comply with the immigration and visa laws of the host country, the student shall immediately lose any right to student housing, as well as all rights and privileges of a student.
  5. Housing
    • Each institution will provide assistance to arriving students to secure suitable housing for the period of time that they will be on campus. The cost of said housing shall be paid by the student.
    • All students are required to abide by the rules and regulations of the host institution regarding housing either on or off campus, failing which the host institution will, in its absolute discretion, be free to terminate any housing agreement.
    • In the event housing is obtained in residences not under the management and/or ownership of the host institution, the host institution must abide by the rules and regulations of the housing authority and will not intervene on behalf of any student violating any housing rules and regulations.
  6. Health/Medical Coverage
    • Students from both institutions shall be required to have appropriate health and medical insurance for the duration of their stay at the host institution.
    • Students at both institutions must provide a name, address and phone number of an appropriate person to be contacted in the event of accident or illness.
    • Student from both institutions shall comply with any directives from the host institution regarding any health or medical issues, including but not limited to, any requirements of quarantine, compulsory medical visits and the providing of necessary medical information to the relevant health authorities of both the institution and the government.
  7. Repatriation of Student Participants
    • In the event of an emergency, illness, accident or any other urgent situation in which a student participant is required or desires to return home, the host institution will make all reasonable efforts to assist said student in returning at the earliest possible time. The host school shall not be required to pay, or be responsible for paying, any expenses for the student on account of said assistance, but may do so with or without an agreement for reimbursement from the home institution.
  8. Academic Provisions
    • The departments involved in the exchange at the home university will provide academic counseling to ensure that the academic courses taken at the host institution are acceptable to the home institution. The host institution will provide course descriptions and syllabi to aid in course equivalency evaluation.
    • Participants in the exchange will be governed by the same regulations and performance standards that pertain to other students at the host institution.
    • Academic achievement reports will be sent to the student’s home institution at the conclusion of each semester, not later than six weeks after the last day of final examinations. In most cases, this will be a university transcript, used at the discretion of the home institution.
    • No monetary consideration will be exchanged between the two institutions, nor will there be any indemnities, reimbursements for expenses, or sharing of fees or profits arising from the exchange.
    • Courses at IÉSEG are conducted in English. AAU shall ensure that students sent to IÉSEG pursuant to this Agreement shall have the necessary English language level to successfully complete courses at IÉSEG. Students will access courses offered to incoming exchange students in the Grande Ecole Program.
    • Courses at AAU are conducted in English. IÉSEG shall ensure that students sent to AAU pursuant to this Agreement shall have the necessary English language level to successfully complete courses at AAU.
  9. Program Coordination
    • Each institution will nominate a program coordinator to ensure that the study proceeds according to a reasonable static plan and to ensure the terms of this Agreement are carried out. Each institution may name a successor to, or replacement of, its coordinator. Each program coordinator will ensure that the partner institution has available to it all information appropriate to the promotion of the program.
