Ufa University of Science and Technology Visits Al Ain University’s College of Engineering (Abu Dhabi)
A delegation of staff and postgraduate students from Ufa University of Science and Technology visited the College of Engineering at AAU (Abu Dhabi Campus) This visit marked a significant step towards fostering international academic collaboration and research partnerships.
The AAU team, comprised of Dr. Bayan Abu Shawar, Dr. Majdi Sawalha, Dr. Tareq Oshan, Dr. Omar Najm, and Eng. Huda Alheeh, warmly welcomed the Ufa University delegation. Each member of the team presented their respective college and the various programs they offer.
The meeting commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Tareq Oshan, who expressed his enthusiasm for the visit and highlighted the importance of such academic exchanges. Following this, Dr. Bayan Abu Shawar presented her pioneering work in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and chatbot systems. She discussed the various applications and challenges of these technologies, and the evolution of chatbots into advanced language models like ChatGPT. Additionally, Dr. Abu Shawar addressed the ethical use of ChatGPT by students and its potential impact on creativity.
Dr. Majdi Sawalha then provided insights into his extensive research in Morphological and Syntactic Analysis, Semantic Analysis, Prosodic and Phonological Analysis, the Arabic corpora, and his funded research projects. This presentation sparked a robust discussion with the Ufa University team, who shared their own research focuses in NLP and technology. The exchange of ideas opened the door for potential future research collaborations between the two institutions.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the College of Engineering labs, led by Dr. Omar Najm and Eng. Huda Al Heeh. The Ufa University team was given an overview of the cutting-edge facilities and ongoing projects at AAU’s Abu Dhabi campus.
