AAU and the Association of Arab Universities are discussing the future of Distance Learning

Al Ain University represented by Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President, participated in the online seminar organized by the Association of Arab Universities to discuss the Arab universities experiences in online learning through Covid-19. The meeting was headed by Prof. Amr Salama, Secretary General of the association, with the participation of a number of Arab university presidents.

The seminar was held remotely because of (Covid-19), and it aimed to show the Arab universities experiences of distance learning, the opportunities and challenges faced by Arab universities after some of them made the decision to distance learning or suspend a period study, which ensures the continuation of the educational process in universities effectively and quality in light of the spread of the new virus, Corona.

Some Arab universities have adopted a number of programs and mechanisms that help with distance learning, so that they have been applied and evaluated accurately. Best practices in distance learning were also shared in terms of technical readiness to communicate information to students by lecturers, student participation, examinations and assessment methods.

Prof. Al Refae, expressed the Al Ain University’s experience in applying the distance learning system, which was to give training courses to faculty members, administrative staff, and students on giving lectures and teaching using the latest technology, which succeed 100%.

As for the future vision of Al Ain University, Al-Refae suggested that a future balance be made between direct and distance education, by dividing the important courses to be given face to face, while courses are more accessible to be given remotely, and the aim is to facilitate the educational process for students. He also indicated that the symposium discussed a number of important scientific and research issues within the framework of activating cooperation between Arab universities and working to enhance scientific and cultural exchange at the regional and international levels.
